Folic acid which is suggested for women in the early period of pregnancy is actually a compound of folate (a B vitamin can be founded in green leafy vegetables and liver). Homocysteine causes heart disease by damaging the inside layer of arteries.

The results showed that people who have more homocysteine are more likely to get cardiovascular disease. This enough amount of vegetables per day.

LVAD can save people from heart disease symptoms

British researchers reported on November 1st, 2006 a device that may do what have been thought it is impossible, that device helps strongly damaged hearts pump. It may repeal heart failure and save people who are their death is soon from symptoms of heart disease.

The device is called LVAD (left ventricular assist device) can encourage the heart to work better, if the suggested drugs were used with the LVAD, according to the researchers.

For the time being, a result of another study approved that statin drug can reduce the dangers of heart attack and heart strokes and other heart disease. This may reduce the number of people who die by heart failure by 24%. Both studies were published in the Journal of the American Medical Association and New England Journal of Medicine.

Sir Magdi Yacoub from Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospital and Dr. Emma Birks from Imperial College London the leaders of this study, tested the LVAD in 15 patients who had severe heart failure with variety of drugs. After one year 11 of the patients were ok to take away the LVAD. One of the patients who had the pump taken died immediately and another one died because of cancer and a third one needed a transplant.

Approximately, there are 5 million Americans who suffer from heart failure and 550,000 cases are reported yearly according to the latest statistics. More than half of them die after two years.

The LVAD device was made by Thoratec. The LVAD transfers the blood from the heart to the arteries of the body, for this reason it reduce the stress on the heart. The researchers gave the patients a variety of drugs to reduce the size of the heart and build its muscle.

The eight survivals are enjoying their normal life and doing their daily responsibilities actively. However, the treatment by LVAD way is risky and not cheap, it costs about $124,000.
